How to Support Our (Canceled) Visiting Authors

Due to public health precautions for COVID-19, the Fresno State English Department canceled or modified most of its blockbuster visiting authors schedule for spring 2020. In an effort to still support the authors and their work, here’s a list of recommended mail order spots to buy their books. Most of these recommendations come directly from the authors themselves.

Marisol Baca — Their poetry collection “Tremor,” available by mail order from 3 Mile Harbor Press in Stuyvesant, New York.

Jamel Brinkley — Their story collection “A Lucky Man,” available by mail order from Eso Won Books in Los Angeles or from Prairie Lights Books in Iowa City, Iowa.

Anthony Cody — Their poetry collection “Borderland Apocrypha,” available by mail order from Omnidawn Publishing in Oakland, or from Bookshop.

Marcelo Hernandez Castillo — Their memoir “Children of the Land,” plus additional books available by mail order from Bookshop.

Rowan Hisayo Buchanan — Their novel “Starling Days,” plus additional books available by mail order from Astoria Bookshop or from Books Are Magic, both in New York City.

Ishmael Reed — Their nonfiction book “Why No Confederate Statues in Mexico,” plus additional books available by mail order from East Bay Booksellers in Oakland.

Erika L. Sanchez — Their novel “I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter,” plus additional books available by mail order from Indiebound.

Naomi Shihab Nye — Their poetry collections “Cast Away: Poems for Our Time” and “Voices in the Air: Poems for Listeners,” plus additional books available by mail order from The Twig Book Shop in San Antonio, Texas.
