My summer reading list: Matt Kenerly

Matt Kenerly
Creative Nonfiction, 2nd year

Animals Strike Curious Poses by Elena Passarello — I had the chance to read Elena’s essay on Arabella, the famous Skylab spider, ahead of its publication in our most recent issue of The Normal School. Let me tell you: It is lights-out good, and the smart money says the rest of her essays on famed animals are, too.

Playing Through the Whistle by S.L. Price — I’m a big football fan, so naturally the tale of a small Pennsylvania steel town that created gridiron legends like Mike Ditka, Tony Dorsett, and Darrelle Revis is right up my alley.

A Supposedly Fun Thing I’ll Never Do Again: Essays and Arguments by David Foster Wallace — DFW often makes me feel like Kristen Wiig in Bridesmaids, begrudgingly acknowledging how good the wedding lemonade is.

The Breaks of the Game by David Halberstam — One of the greatest writers that ever lived, period.
