The annual Respite By The River series returns this month for another six-month run, delivering stories of California’s central San Joaquin Valley by area writers.
The first installment of the new season is scheduled for Thursday, May 17, with Fresno MFA alumna Janet Nichols Lynch. She is the author of four novels for young adults–including the recent Peace is a Four-letter Word, from Heyday Books–as well as the short-story collection Where Words Leave Off Music Begins. Nichols Lynch lives in Visalia and teaches at both El Diamante High School and College of the Sequoias.
The free event will take place at the San Joaquin River Center, 11605 Old Friant Road. Bring your own picnic dinner at 6 p.m. for the pre-reading entertainment. The reading begins at 7 p.m., with a book-signing and tour of the River Center to follow.
Here’s the rest of the 2007 series lineup:
June 21, with Jim Ashford;
July 19, Nature Poets of the Valley;
Aug. 16, with Aris Janigian;
