STUDENTS: Beavers, Getto are dean’s medal nominees

Two graduating Fresno MFA students were honored this past Saturday night at the annual Arts In Motion event, the yearly showcase of the top graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Humanities.

Guiseppe Getto (pictured left) and Jefferson Beavers (right) were both named Graduate Dean’s Medal Nominees from the English Department. They were joined by MFA coordinator Connie Hales (center) and other English Department faculty, family, and friends at Arts In Motion, where 18 of the College’s top grads were recognized for both their scholastic achievement and service to the university community.

Getto is completing both his MA degree in Composition and his MFA degree in creative writing, with an emphasis in poetry, this semester. He will begin doctoral study in composition and rhetoric in the fall at Michigan State.

Beavers is completing his MFA degree in creative writing, with an emphasis in creative nonfiction, this semester. He will begin a lectureship with the Mass Communication and Journalism Department at Fresno State in the fall.

Getto and Beavers each received certificates, $100 awards, and full scholarships to the annual CSU Summer Arts festival, as awarded by the dean of the College, Vida Samiian.
